Bending (flexing) or twisting the spine are often cited as the the catalyst for low back pain or injury. There is nothing inherently wrong with these motions. Certain personal factors may play a role in injury risk, but that could be true for any direction of motion. Sometimes injuries just happen. In an effort to make people more resilient to bending and twisting, we ensure our rehabilitation plans include a roadmap that will lead to development of a buffer for these patterns. The hope is that this will decrease the likelihood of a repeat injury, as many rehab programs historically call for avoidance of the posture/movement that is related to the injury.
