In this video I discuss the physical therapy decision making for a low back pain case where the person is fearful of returning to skiing. Their entire episode of care has been dominated by fear and extreme caution, due to an significantly painful and disabling low back pain flare up a number of months ago. The person has come a long way since the start of therapy, which has resulted in progression of complexity and loading during exercises and tasks.
In our most recent session together they off-hand mentioned they didn't want to test their luck by going skiing with family and friends. It caused me to call an audible during the session, changing what I had already planned, to set in motion a plan to build their self-efficacy in being able to perform such a dynamic activity.
